Summary
Stubblefield may have successfully transmitted sound without wires ten years before Guglielmo Marconi's experiment in 1895. He gave a public demonstration in the Calloway County Courthouse yard in 1892, and again near Washington, D. C. He refused a bid for the rights to his invention and returned to Murray to continue experimenting. This contains information about Stubblefield's experiments with radio in Murray. The ledger contains information about the Stubblefield Wireless Telephone Company, which the inventor tried to organize in 1907 to finance his work. It lists names of the shareholders in the company; and sales from Stubblefield's fruit and vegetable trade, which he operated for subsistence while devoting most of his time to experimentation.
