Summary
Images on advertising cards often depict ethnic groups in stereotypical fashion. Miscellaneous business ephemera and advertising material related to soap. Includes substantial material from larger soap manufacturers, such as Procter & Gamble, Lever Brothers, and Colgate. Also, patents, trademarks, general correspondence, material on soap machinery, soap recipes, soap premiums, photographs of soap bars and wrappers, bills and receipts, and a checkerboard advertising lye products. Since many soap manufacturers also made candles, candles and related products are found in this series: e.g., baking powder, baking soda, yeast, polish, leather preservatives, grease neets foot oil, hides, tallow, wool skins, etc.; also products associated with the laundry, including starch, bluing, washing powders, and washing fluids
